Labor Descriptions
Commons clean A
Sweep and mop the large room
Put away any folding chairs left out
Put away any items left out
Straighten the bookshelves
Wipe down the table
Vacuum the purple room
Generally make sure everything’s looking tidy
Commons clean B
Sweep and mop the hallway and pantry
Put away anything left out in the pantry
Clean the microwave
Empty trash and recycling in the pantry
Put away any items left out on large table
Tidy up the computer lab
106 bathroom clean
Dispose of trash
Clean the toilet bowl
Restock toilet paper, or notify Food Buyer if running low
Wipe down sink and counter tops
Sweep and mop the floor
Excludes the bath tub
Dinner clean-up ( DCU)
Put away leftovers. DATE THEM if not already dated and labeled.
Do dishes, including any leftover cook’s dishes
Wipe down counters and all tables
Take out trash
Put away any other ingredients, condiments, appliances, etc. left out on counters or table
Sweep and mop kitchen floor when done.
Dinner cook
Prepare one or more dishes that can feed 8-10 people. When in doubt make extra! If at all possible communicate with your fellow dinner cook(s) to ensure a balanced meal. Dinner should be ready by 7:30 each night.
List ingredients on a label WITH A DATE next to or on the dish
Fridge clean
Remove and throw away rotten, spoiled, or otherwise not-fresh food or condiments from any of the three refrigerators or the freezers. If it is questionable and/or not dated, throw it out!
Clean any dishes freed up by throwing out food
Clean any spilled food or liquids
Reorganize items in the freezer if necessary
Laundry room clean
Take out laundry room trash
Sweep and very rarely (in the case of a soap spill for instance) mop.
Throw away any trash, empty containers, etc. that might be left on the machines or on the shelf.
Wipe down the machines with disinfectant
Clean soap trays with vinegar and water mix
If there is any graffiti, attempt to get it off with soap and water. If not possible report to labor czar.
Courtyard clean
Sweep the courtyard
Clean up any toys or obstructions which could trip people
Dispose of trash and recyclable items
Put away any cooperative property (eg, tools, ladders, gardening utensils).
Clean up large spills or messes
Trash Patrol
Take out trash from courtyard and breezeway trash cans.
Pick up trash in parking lot and courtyard
Recycling
Take recycling to Ecology Action or another drop-off site of your choice regularly. Typically this will be on a weekly basis, but if it’s overflowing into the walkway then it needs to go, whether or not it’s been a week.

Waterer
Pull out hose wheel and hose key, attach to hose. Soak the soil of all herbs and vegetable plants in the central courtyard, and ornamentals and other plants as needed. Eventually, this duty will extend to other plots as we expand and grow more productive plants. Must have #101 maintenance closet key.
Frequency: 30 minutes of labor, twice a day – ideally, dawn and a few hours before dusk.
Watering
Every day, morning or evening, one half hour each shift.
Responsibilities:
- Water plants in the courtyard. Pay careful attention so as not to drown or starve plants.
Bookkeeping
Flexible, hours vary
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Treasurer and Bookkeeper with any tasks the Ministry of Finance deem necessary.
Pantry Inventory
Sunday after KAF is received but before house meeting, 1 hour
Responsibilities:
- Assist the KAF labor with receiving food donations;
- Wipe down the pantry and make sure all food is stored away cleanly and neatly
- Go through 'bread pantry' and remove moldy items / move to refrigerator or freezer if space allows
- Make sure that everything in the refrigerators and freezers is accounted for by doing an inventory
Recovery Cook
- Cook food out of KAF items that will not be used by the dinner crew (e.g., bananas)
- Store food in such a way so that it will not go bad (e.g., peel bananas and freeze them)
- If there is no food to recover, help Pantry Inventory or Commons Clean
