Present: Paul (minutes), Beryl (facilitator), Kate, Chinhae, Bernard, Reyna, Cory, Dwain, Leah, Joy, Jill, Reyna, Frog, Don, Russ, Leo
Gio H. (second meeting, approved)
Diana R. (first meeting, current lease ends in January)
Minutes approved.
Joy, labor czar: I’m sending out a date survey for when labor holiday should happen. Top choice so far is the 25th of January. There’s also a labor holiday suggestion sheet on the commons door. Also some people still need to fill out the general labor survey. Some of them are officers.
Point of information: Sapphire caused a ruckus last night. He’s banned from the property. There’s a pattern of harassment. We’ve also filed a police report. Don’t engage with him.
(Steward) Officer reports
Reyna, membership: Bella just moved in. Venus is moving in tomorrow. Evan is moving in the 11th. That leaves us with one open spot.
Bernard, kitchen manager: We lost a cook to a food buyer position. Lots of people are not doing DCU or cleaning duties. Containers are being used, hallelujah - not for their intended purpose, but that’s okay. We plan to trap Sneaky Pete the rat.
Quinn, incoming food buyer: I just bought the second week of food. It’s been light the last few weeks. For those of you not aware, we’ve made agendas at our kitchen meetings - a slowdown on cooking meals to get ourselves out of a hole cleaning-wise. We’ve redone the spice cabinet, moving to bulk spices. Please use the bulk spice, and feel free to request more. We’ve also bought some basic office supplies. Please use them and do not steal them. We have a bigger budget now, but we still need to preserve.
Frog, maintenance: We fixed Tif’s door. There’s multiple other doors that need work. I need to go to Lowe’s soon to get faucets and other things.
Leah, board: Our last meeting was largely with Philip and his caseworker, negotiating his departure time. They’ve asked for more time again.
Point of information: We’re probably filing tomorrow.
Cory: We’re having to pay for alternative housing for Tif right now. NASCO won’t let us take that out of the vacancy reserve fund. I’ll be spearheading discussions about setting up a kind of CHEA reserve fund.
Beryl, steward: Might need a ride to file tomorrow. I’m working with Salina’s steward on the NP representative nominations.
Kate, treasurer: We’ve got checks in from Frost so we can pay bills that way. We still need additional cards from them, for food buyer. The compost company said they sent a paylink but I haven’t seen it. We paid a month of Tif’s rent.
Point of information: Let me forward you the paylink.
Joy, labor czar: I already talked about the labor survey. I’ll try to link up with people who still haven’t done it, leave notes on doors. I’m going to work on labor reassignments this week. I just want as many people as possible at the labor holiday - let me know your availability. I’m working on a proper no-show report, hoping to report that tomorrow. I’m worried it will show several people are in violation of their labor behavior contracts. I still want a labor workgroup - expect an email about that soon too.
Chinhae, events: We’re having our gift gathering January 8th. We’d love if you bring kosher, vegan food or nonalcoholic beverages.
(Steward) Discuss the installation of cameras/security footage outide of members leaser premises
Point of information: Someone in the past has put up personal cameras in the outdoor spaces. How do people feel about that?
Point of information: In your window, facing out, is perfectly legal.
Point of information: There’s also door cameras, which some people - some members here - use for accessibility.
POI: My door camera doesn’t record anything but a 10 second clip around when you walk in front of my door.
POI: My problem is with setting up cameras on the outside, stringing up wire, etc.
POI: These cameras are pointed in a way that they’re covering other apartment doors, and they’re running a lot.
POI: We have co-op cameras but they’re not completely set up. Maybe we can get more of them working during labor holiday. I’d like to see the camera system working and stable before we pass more rules about cameras.
Discussion item closed.
(Steward) Vote again on new by-law amendment
Proposed extension to Article IV, Section 3 of CHEA Bylaws: “Member Directors shall be elected in accordance with their respective house election processes. Non-Member Directors and all other positions elected directly by the general membership of CHEA shall be elected by simple majority ranked choice, with ballots distributed by each house's officers to its voting members in good standing in accordance with their house ballot distribution process.
“Ranked choice voting” shall entail: Ballots shall be distributed by which voting members in good standing shall rank nominees from most to least preferred (including an option for No Confidence), and if when first-ranked votes are totaled no nominee has won by a simple majority, the nominee who received the lowest vote total shall be eliminated and ballots cast for them counted for each voting member's next choice on their ballot, repeating this process of elimination and recounting one nominee at a time until a single nominee receives a simple majority of the vote & is elected.”
Leah, board: We’ve already passed this by-law change. Sasona passed this recently and people asked us to do this again just so everyone is clear we’re on the same page.
Approved by enthusiastic consensus.
I walked out this morning and the commons door was wide open. There’s a couple problematic people hanging around, including a banned person. Please be careful with our spaces.
